BREAD TASTING AND CHOCOLATE MAKING
As part of our market research for DT children had the opportunity to taste a variety of Warburton breads (other brands are available). The children focussed on the appearance, texture and taste of seeded, white, wholemeal, half and half, orange fruit loaf and cinnamon and raisin fruit loaf. The favoured loaf in 3H was the orange fruit loaf and in 3S the cinnamon fruit loaf.
The children will now have the chance to design the shape and flavour of their own bread which they will make later in the term.
Children then had the opportunity to make chocolate bars as part of our instruction writing in English.
Children watched as we melted chocolate into a metallic bowl by putting the bowl on a saucepan of boiling water. The children were then able to select up to 3 toppings from a choice of – rice crispies, popping candy, crushed candy canes, marshmallows and Haribo bears. They put their toppings into a mould before the melted chocolate was added.
We left the moulds in the fridge for the rest of the day and then the children were very excited for the big reveal at the end of the day. The bars were a success and the children fed back that they were tasty.
The children were then able to remember all the elements needed to write instructions for making a chocolate bar for their independent writing.
