THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS
This week to finish off our history unit of work on the Ancient Egyptians, we have been creating mod roc masks.
The Ancient Egyptians used to use masks to cover the faces of those who were mummified. We based our masks off Tutankhamun’s mask. His mask was discovered by Howard Carter. He was an Egyptologist who spent years searching for the tomb of the pharaoh. He found the tomb in 1922 and within it was Tutankhamun’s famous mask.
To make the masks we had an outline of a mask shape on card. After filling the outline with rolled up newspaper and attaching this with masking tape, we had to use mod rod to cover each bit of newspaper. It got quite messy but we had great weather and so could complete this outdoors. We then waited for the masks to dry and then we could paint them. Click HERE to see some of our masks.
