WELCOME BACK TO YEAR 3

We are now a few weeks back into school since the break and the children have been as enthusiastic as ever with their learning.

Maths

Our maths has seen us revisit our key skills of multiplication and division as well as seeing us apply these skills to scaling and correspondence problems in maths. If you ever need a reminder of the methods that we teach then the calculation policy is available on the school website. We are going to be looking at time in the run up to half term, so it’s time to get those watches out and read the time!

English

Our English has seen us start a brand-new book – Sam Wu is Not Afraid of the Dark. This exciting book follows the story of Sam and his friends as they overcome different challenges including things that may make them a little more nervous from time to time. We started by learning all about the authors Kevin and Katie Tsang and what inspires them to write. It was really interesting to learn about the different cultures that influence the characters in their books.

Art

We have started our term by exploring collaging techniques, and creating some wonderful images. If you want to see some of these then take a look in the GALLERY. We are now moving on to learn about the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt focussing on his use of colour and shape to create some interesting paintings of people, particularly women.

History

In History we have launched into our unit all about the Roman Empire. This fed really nicely on from our unit last term as the Iron Age in Britain ended with the Roman invasion. We have already learned that the Romans were very strong and very successful due to their well trained and enormous army.

Science

Science has been a great unit to start as we look at light and darkness. This unit is allowing us to carry out lots of investigations linked to how light moves through objects and which materials are reflective.

A couple of the children had the following to say…

Josh S – “I have enjoyed PE. I enjoy the different activities in our OAA. I have liked learning about different artists as well.”

Elsie D – “I have enjoyed French because I like learning about food. I also like drumming in music because I like making different noises on the djembe.”

We hope you have enjoyed reading all about our learning and we can’t wait to tell you about what we get up to over the rest of the term.
