INTO THE WOODS
On Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th November, Year One went to Bromham Woods for their outdoor learning days.
Wednesday was a bit wet to start with but once we got to Bromham, it wasn’t raining anymore and although it was cold (luckily we were all sent in with lots of layers and warm clothes!) we were ready to have fun.
After the safety talks it was time to go and explore the woods. We wenT and looked at the trees and found some brown mushrooms on a tree stump. We were so noisy that we scared the birds out of the trees! Then we completed our morning activities.
Task one was to make a paper crown with leaves and natural materials. We got very messy with glue! The next activity was making art with natural materials in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. After this, we had lunch and a story and then some of us could go explore whilst the others plays with the parachute in the hall which was loads of fun.
On Thursday, because it was icy, we were able to explore more of the woods and it was so much fun. The children loved climbing over the trees, roots and brambles, exploring and looking for different things during the scavenger hunt. We also sketched leaves and did rubbings of tree trunks and leaves. We were able to explore so much more of the woods, finding a frog as we did so!
The best part was the bus ride, the children were very excited to spot things they knew like Bedford Park, and to see how the Great Ouse had flooded at Bromham Mill. Yes it was cold, but with the right clothing, we all had lots of fun and the benefits of being outside, are amazing! We would definitely do it all again!
