MUSIC BLOG!
Another academic year comes to a close and unfortunately another summer term without a school concert to celebrate the hard work and successes of our instrumentalists and choir.
Please look out for some lovely performances on Facebook of some of our leavers this term who have performed a piece of their choice to showcase their achievements.
I wish all our leavers all the best in their new schools and hope they continue to enjoy music.
This term it’s been lovely to see some new starters in brass and woodwind, and more new instrumentalists joining in September in all instruments offered in school. I am so proud of our pupils for their tenacity and commitment during a tough year where there has been a lot of online lessons and no opportunities to perform face to face. They have stuck it out and continue to work hard and progress. We have over 50 children learning instruments now in school which is a huge amount! A big thank you to our strong team of instrumental teachers, Mrs Waters, Mrs Sutherland, Mrs Schofield and Mr Knight who have really helped me keep things going this year.
Class music teaching has continued in bubbles this term. There has been a wide variety of topics covered across the school including Hip hop, The Beatles, World War 2 music which covered the swing era and 12 bar blues music, as well as a rather loud week in year 4 recreating ‘storm’ music based on a Benjamin Britten piece! We also had a day of Samba workshops for the year 5 and 6 pupils which was very well received. We had a fantastic day outside with a range of instruments all playing different rhythms - the kids did a great job of keeping in time and following cues from the leader. Much fun was had by all.
I hope everyone has a lovely summer break and hopefully soon we can all enjoy live music again.
